AboutUs

In 2011 French students from Maranacook visited the Rhone American Cemetery on a travel trip. The Superintendent at the Cemetery tasked our students with telling the stories of the soldiers buried there from our State of Maine, through research. When French teacher John Hirsch returned to school he partnered with History teacher Shane Gower and the first story of George Arsenault from Rumford, ME was told in 2013. The media coverage from this led to a visit from Robert Goddard whose brother Lewis Frelan Goddard is also buried in the Rhone American Cemetery.

An interdisciplinary course was then created. Students earn Foreign Language and Social Studies credit through research and the telling of the stories of soldiers and civlians who made sacrifices during the World War Two. This website is dedicated to telling these stories.

Some of the story links may not work when you visit- this is due to work being done on that webpage at that time. Please come back later and you will see more working links to stories being told. We also have a page with a list of resources we have found useful in our work. As you read the stories archived here, please rememeber the sacrifces made.
